The 1st step is to choose what kind of flexible LED strip light you are going to use for your project. Strips have different working wattage and working voltage, mostly we will use 5 meter length on architectural series strip light . Take care of the recommended maximum run lengths of the lights due tovoltage drop.
Check if the input of your strip is 12V or 24V, it is a important step because wrong voltage input may lead to malfunction or other safety hazards. Some strip lights use AC high voltage and do not require 12 vdc power supply or 24 vdc power supply.
Third step is check how many watts per foot your strip will consume, this is very important to calculate how large of a power supply you will need, if you do not have enough power to strips, they may appear dim, flicker issue, or not light up at all such these problems. Each strip consumes a certain amount of power per foot (watts/ft) which can be found on the product information.
Then, when choosing a constant current power supply or constant voltage led power supply, make sure you are only using 80% of the rated power maximum to increase warranty of the power supply and keep it cool to prevent overheating. For example, the minimum rated power for light would be 28.8W/0.8 = 36W, this means you need a led driver that has a minimum power of 36watt.
Finally, To finalize the purchasing, you can choose three different types of power supplies depending on your installation,
1. Dimmable power supply
2. Plug in and desktop style plastic housing power supply
3. Normal non dimmable power supply
