The LED is a constant current device with a forward voltage drop. This means that the voltage must exceed this voltage drop to allow current to flow, and by controlling the current, the intensity can be controlled. Due to the high temperature inside the LED, too much or too little current will cause the light output to change or decrease at a faster rate. LED drivers respond to changing requirements of LED circuits by providing a constant amount of power to the LEDs (within the rated current range) because their electrical characteristics vary with temperature.

Smarts Electronics's led drivers are designed for a single direct current output voltage. Most common constant voltage drivers are 12V DC power supply or 24V DC led driver. The led power supply is making it suitable for indoor or outdoor use and includes integral short circuit and overload protection.
