We already know very clearly that there are only two ways to drive the LED:
Constant current type: the current does not change and the voltage changes within a certain range (varies with the load)
Constant voltage: constant voltage and current changes within a certain range (varies with load)
There are three ways to cooperate with LED lights: series and parallel.
In Series:
The LED driver is required to output a higher voltage. When the consistency of the LEDs is very different, the voltages distributed across the different LEDs are different, and the current through each slim type LED led power supply is the same, and the brightness of the LEDs is the same.
When a certain LED is short-circuited due to poor quality, if a regulated drive is used, since the output voltage of the driver remains unchanged, the voltage distributed across the remaining LEDs will increase, and the output current of the driver will increase, which will easily damage all the remaining LEDs.
If a constant current LED is used to drive, when a certain constant voltage LED driver is short-circuited due to poor quality, the output current of the driver remains unchanged, which will not affect the normal operation of all the remaining LEDs. When a certain LED is of poor quality and disconnected, all the LEDs connected in series will not light up.
In Parallel type:
The LED driver is required to output a larger current and the load voltage is lower. The voltages distributed at both ends of all LEDs are the same. When the consistency of the LEDs is quite different, and the current through each LED is not consistent, the brightness of the LEDs is also different. LEDs with better consistency can be selected, which is suitable for products with lower power supply voltages.
When a certain LED is of poor quality and disconnected, if a constant voltage LED is used to drive, the output current of the driver will be reduced without affecting the normal operation of all the remaining LEDs. If a constant-current LED drive is used, since the output current of the driver remains unchanged, the current allocated to the remaining LEDs will increase, causing all LEDs to be easily damaged.
The solution is to connect as many LEDs in parallel as possible. When a certain dimmable small constant voltage led driver is disconnected, the current allocated to the remaining LEDs is not large, which will not affect the normal operation of the remaining LEDs. Therefore, when power LEDs are used as parallel loads, it is not suitable to use constant current drivers.
